Hospice focuses on the individual's quality of life rather than quantity of life. The Hospice concept is comfort care as opposed to aggressive, curative treatment. Death and the dying process is accepted as a normal part of life and Hospice facilitates a dignified dying process.

The intent of Hospice Care is to facilitate all aspects of care so patients can do as much as they want and are able to do in the final stage of life. Although the mission of Hospice Care is a solemn one, the hospice approach emphasizes a sense of joy based on acceptance and wonder toward this natural part of the life cycle.
